Virtual investigation of pulmonary airways in volumetric computed tomography
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper addresses the issue of non-invasive investigation and functional assessment of pulmonary airways reconstructed from multi detector computed tomography clinical acquisitions. Such an analysis combines accurate 3D meshing of the inner bronchial wall surface and navigation and interactivity tools based on a robust central axis representation. A reliable endoluminal investigation of airways via virtual bronchoscopy is possible regardless of their anatomical/pathological specificity (small caliber bronchi, severe stenoses, ...). Computational fluid dynamics simulations on real airway geometries allow to assess functional modifications induced by physiopathological changes.

Background: Paranasal sinus disease is one of the most common problems of patients that refer to ENT centers. Adding to clinical examination imaging plays an important role in diagnosis and treatment. Also the imaging of paranasal sinuses is necessary before surgery. Although computed tomography is the modality of choice for these areas, it has some disadvantages which the most important one is...
متن کاملInvestigation of airways using MDCT for visual and quantitative assessment in COPD patients
Multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) acquisition during a single breath hold using thin collimation provides high resolution volumetric data set permitting multiplanar and three dimensional reconstruction of the proximal airways. In chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients, this technique provides an accurate assessment of bronchial wall thickening, tracheobronchial deformation...
متن کاملQuantitative 3D CT bronchography
In the framework of computer-aided diagnosis, this paper proposes a novel functionality for computerized tomography (CT)based investigation of pulmonary airways. It provides a specific visualization modality the virtual CT bronchography together with quantitative investigation via a central axis-based description. This functionality relies on an energy-based 3D reconstruction of the bronchial t...
متن کاملVolumetric evaluation of pituitary gland in dog and cat using computed tomography
The objective of this study was to evaluate the pituitary gland dimensions due to age and weight using computed tomography (CT) in dogs and cats. The CT images of pituitary gland were assessed in 11 client-owned dogs (six males and five females; age range, 1 to 9 years) and 15 client-owned cats (eight males and seven females; age range, 1 to 14 years) with no evidence of pituitary diseases. The...
متن کاملComment on “Computed Tomography Imaging Findings in Chemical Warfare Victims with Pulmonary Complications”
Dr.Mirsadraei and colleagues performed an interesting study about the lung HRCT findings in chemical warfare patients who suffering from long-term pulmonary complications. They found that air trapping and mosaic attenuation were the most common lung HRCT findings. Also they divided patients in different clinical entities according to the lung HRCT findings (Bronchiolitis Oblitrans, pulmonary fi...
